We managed to get tickets to the FA Communty Shield at the new Wembley Stadium! There were plenty of people when we arrived (2.5 hours before the start of the match) and it was fairly organized as they streamed the chelsea supporters to the right and man u supporters to the left to avoid any brawls.

Trivial Fact: The FA Community Shield is a traditional pre-event match between league champions and FA cup holders before the start of the new English Premier League season. It was last held at the Wembley 6 years ago!

The new wembley's really nice. of course, the red seats were very appropriate as we were there to support man u. We thought we had pretty lousy seats, right at the top corner of the stadium but turned out that it was pretty alright and unobstructed compared to the same position as at Old Trafford. Probaly cos the stands are nearer to the pitch, I could actually see the ball moving on the pitch and actually make out numbers on shirts!

Introducing the players while they were warming up. ZW managed to get a shot of Christiano Ronaldo (on screen)!

And there was quite a pre-match performance with drummers and a showcase of small kids playing football and a big opening show of the flags of two sides and their pictures of team captains lifting respective trophies.

All that kept us entertained until it was finally time to start the match with captains shaking hands....yes...if you squint hard enough...there's frank lampard shaking hands with ryan giggs.

It was an exciting match despite what the BBC news reported and it ended with penalties! Below is a pic of the players waiting to start off with the penalties.

Good to say that Man U won 3-0 on penalties. Superb saves from Van der Sar....so obvious the psychological tactics he uses.... it was nice to observe the celebrations after, lifting of the trophies etc... Definitely a good experience, coupled with good weather, and of course, a well-deserved win.
