Dearth of the Routemaster and London Black Cabs

And so, the Routemaster makes its final regular service in London. That came as quite a shock for me cos:

1) i never knew these buses had such a classy name as Routemaster, so although it has been making headlines, it never caught my attention until i saw the picture

2) i knew that they were gradually being replaced but never thought there would be a complete overhaul since these buses were really unique.


Well, all I can say is what a shame. These were definitely different from the modern buses one sees back in Singapore. In fact, there's a feeling of nostalgia now that the routemasters are gone. They were quite a dominant feature in my first year here, the buses 211 and 14... I'll miss you!

And now...are the black cabs characteristic of London being phased out too? Advertising is definitely starting to find its way onto the body of cabs...better grab a photo with a classic London cab first before its too late!
